The project's strategic objective is to contribute to Kuwait sustainable development program, through the establishment of "Kuwait Integrated Environmental Information Network (KIEIN)", to provide and support decision/policy makers and planners with relevant upto date and accurate environmental information. Phase III of KIEIN project enhances the geo-environmental database that started in phases I and II of this project.
The KIEIN project is based mainly on the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. The GIS is a computer-based tool for mapping and analyzing objects that exist and events that happened on the earth. It is an advanced technology that integrates common database operations such as query and statistical analysis with the unique visualization and geospatial analyses. These abilities distinguish the GIS from other information systems and make it valuable to a wide range of public and private enterprises for explaining events, predicting outcomes, and planning strategies.

The KIEIN-III project comprises of four main components, which are:

  • Migrating the geoenvironmental database of KIEIN previous phases into ArcGIS environment, in addition to integrating selected GIS applications inside KISR into the KIEIN environment.
  • Development of GIS applications for socio-economic and demographic indicators.
  • Development of a web-based GIS application to facilitate the dissemination of the available geoenvironmental information at KISR.
  • Conducting a comprehensive human resources development program.
The next phase of KIEIN will be concerned with the environmental indicators as well as the spatial decision support systems (SDSS) that will support the policy and decision makers to protect our environment. I would like to thank all the project staff and the UNDP's consultants for their efforts during the analysis, design and implementation of this project. I am grateful for all KISR divisions that provided the KIEIN project with the needed data.
